5 Ways to Beat the January Body Blues ¦ Alice Phillips

We all get it at this time of year - that undeniable feeling of being gross inside and out. This my friends, is what I like to call the January body blues.
Over the festive period, most of us do as expected and eat, drink and be merry, which is something that we all love to do. BUT, it leaves us feeling like slobs through the whole of January, hating the way we look, and wanting to curl up in a nice warm ball somewhere until we can emerge pretty with fabulous bodies again. Or is that just me?

I know that an abundance of New Years resolutions are made - 'I must get fit and lose that weight' - but the truth is, very little of these get stuck to. And that's okay! But I thought I'd give my 5 best tips for beating the blues and kick starting your new year the right way, which is something that I'm determined to do this year and so far...it's working!

1) Quit your self-loathing and get off your ass
...brutal, I know. But the truth is, the longer you hate yourself for the Christmas binge and the way you look, the longer you'll sit at home stalking instagrams of all those super hot people with crackin' bods scoffing on comfort foods. If you feel rubbish about the way you look, start taking small steps towards changing your ways.

2) Stay away from all of the extreme fad diets
More often than not, these diets drain your energy and make you feel like you're not yourself. Although you may get instant results, when Kate Moss said that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels, I can assure you she was lying (mmm pizza). Whilst they may work, as soon as you get back to a normal lifestyle you'll pile on the pounds, so stay away from starvation!

3) Set your own plan with small goals
Instead of being one of those people that joins a gym, goes for a week, and then wastes money paying membership when you don't even go, set yourself mini goals. Whether you 'gym-it' or exercise at home, achieving little steps that you've planned for yourself in the grand scheme of things can really encourage you, and help you know that you're doing better even if you don't physically notice it straight away.

4) Look after the rest of yourself
Having a good hair, face, or outfit day can really make a huge difference to your mood. Although you may not be happy with areas of your bod, nothing can boost your spirits quite like knowing that you look absolutely fabulous.

5) Allow yourself the odd day to be lazy
Instead of lounging around when you were meant to be doing other things and then proceeding to feel guilty for it, MAKE TIME to be lazy. Plan a day or two off in the week when it's okay to relax, and this will make sure that you're proactive and productive on the days that you need to be, with some well-deserved down time pencilled in.

Now although these might be pretty self-explanatory things, I just thought that I'd share them because whilst I'm using these as guidelines, this is actually the first year that I seem to be starting a healthy lifestyle (kicking off with my teatox!), and I'm super excited to stick to it and make changes.

Have any of you got any fail-safe methods to beating the blues?
Stay Positive!
