Romantic Efflorescence Face ¦ Alice Phillips

One of the main things I've been really loving playing around with recently is eyeshadow. I've never really been a fan I have to admit - I'm more of a plain lid with winged eyeliner kinda girl and always have been. But so many amazing palettes being available at bargain prices, I just couldn't keep away.

One of my most recent purchases, which you can read about in my last post is the MUA Eyeshadow Palette in Romantic Efflorescence. It is made up of twelve amazing colours in all sorts of deep purples and browns with a mix of both matte and shimmer finishes, and as I don't own any matte eyeshadows (or purple for that matter), I decided to try out a makeup look combining the two before the pub last night.

[Fully aware of how awful the light was, it was about 8pm which forced me to stand on my bed facing my light bulb to get a decent amount of light without using a flash!]

I love playing around with different looks, and this is how it turned out, so I was quite pleased as I'm very much a beginner. My eyes (although you can't really tell) were actually really quite a nice deep purple, although it was still pretty subtle.

I used 'mesmeric' as a base all over my lid, which is actually a pretty perfect matte base nude for my eyelids and I absolutely love the shade already. I then used 'captivate' in my crease and blended it out, following up with the deep plummy colour 'tempt' concentrated in my crease, and then brought out a bit more at the outer corner of my eye just to give a really teeny hint of a smokey eye (I'm not great at it, but with practice eh?).

My eyes are really small for the  size and shape of my face, so I always worry about how much makeup I carry on them incase it gives the illusion that they are even more tiddly than they actually are! It's a fine balance that I tend to be very wary of. But I bought a really small amount of 'captivate' down along part-way of my bottom lid to finish off the look.

The rest of the makeup I used on my face was pretty much the norm. Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation in Light Porcelain, Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer in Ivory (slightly too dark, any suggestions for good alternatives for pale skin would be much appreciated!), and also MUA Undress Your Skin Under Eye Concealer in Luminous.

My face was finished off with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent, Benefit Hoola Bronzer, and MUA Blusher in Bon Bon. I also used the MUA Pro-Brow Set (with a different eyebrow brush to the one provided), and Maybelline Volum' Express the Colossal Waterproof Mascara, finishing off with the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in 063 Eastend Snob all over my lips with a touch of vaseline to soften it.

I just can't wait until spring when it's lighter for that bit longer so that I can take much better photographs, but I hope you enjoy the look! It was slightly darker than the pictures show, probably due to me having my face so close to the lightbulb, but I think they show it pretty well. It was so much fun to do, and I'm definitely loving the colours in the Romantic Efflorescence Palette so far!
