So for those of you that have been followers for a while, you might remember that just over two weeks ago I started a Bootea 14 day Teatox (you can find the original post here). I was definitely really excited to try it, and January was obviously the perfect time to embark on one of these teatoxes, with the whole 'new year new me' hype that was going on.
[Both pictures taken from my previous post]
To start with, the tea wasn't actually that bad. The Daytime Detox was...alright I guess? But only alright. If I could describe it in one word it would be 'herby' - if that is even a term? But then again I don't really know what else I would have expected from a herbal tea. It wasn't necessarily a bad taste, but I can't say that I especially enjoyed it either.
I was quite worried about the Bedtime Cleanse, as the ingredients that it contained (all of which were nicely listed on the back) all tended to be flavours that I really dislike, be it from childhood association or food and drink that I don't like. HOWEVER (and I say that with capitals as it is a big 'however'), I have to say I really enjoyed it! It had a nice refreshing yet warming pepperminty taste to it, which just before bed was really great to soothe you and warm you up nicely. So that was definitely an unexpected bonus.
One of the main fears, or negative aspects of reviews that this teatox gets is the suggested laxative effect that users say normally comes around at its peak of day 4 of the teatox, and I hate to say it as it is definite TMI for you all, but I have to completely agree with this one. Not necessarily that I had a bad stomach in itself (I warned you of the TMI!), but I got really quite bad stomach cramps and the need to use the toilet quite a bit. And obviously this was pretty uncomfortable and annoying on my drive back from Cardiff to Bristol! The 8 hour guide that they give you for it to take effect is definitely vague, or just really not on point at all!
Don't get me wrong, I definitely think I was in the minority with this reaction to it. I mentioned before that one of my housemates was doing the teatox with me, and she didn't seem to react at all to the Bedtime Cleanses, so I can just assume that it affects different bodies in different ways - something to be wary of!
Now the results...
One of the main recommendations that Bootea suggests on their website is that you stick to a meal plan, which essentially cuts out meat and bulk dairy from your diet, along with sugars and other such things, and I have to say that I think that it may be this more than the tea that has an effect on your body. Yes, drinking the tea is nice and refreshing and probably does cleanse your body of a lot of toxins, but it also wouldn't be able to do this without you getting rid of some of the bad things that you put into your body in the first place.
I have to say, I didn't measure any inches, or weigh myself on the scales at all (well, I tried but apparently students can only afford dodgy scales that give you numerous different weights whilst being stood still on them), so I can't actually tell you if I lost any weight or anything, but I do think that my physical appearance changed slightly around my stomach. I've always been prone to a bit of bloating, and if anything at all happened from the teatox, it was definitely that I bloated less.
Generally, I feel that if you are looking at the Bootea to lose weight, you're making the wrong decision. By no means is it a weight loss miracle worker, and neither does it promise that. However, I do definitely thing that it is a great way to help energise you and make you feel good. I do think that it would be really good towards helping with weight loss IF (and that's a big if) you are using it alongside a healthy lifestyle of good food and exercise, because nothing ever comes from taking an easy route such as merely drinking herbal tea, because everyone would have done it by now!The meal plan does cut out a lot, but obviously this is how Bootea promise their optimum results, and I do think that it really is a good thing to stick to if you want to try this.
My advice? Think about what you're using it for before you jump in at the deep end, and also think about your body and it's natural reactions. If you're prone to a dodgy stomach, definitely don't opt for this one, as it could have disastrous effects! But if not and you feel like a health kick to get you motivated, give it a go because it might set you up in the right direction for the new year!

I tried the tiny tea detox but it made me feel so ill :( I wasn't a huge fan at all and definitely agree that they aren't this miracle thing to make you lose weight x

It's such a shame isn't it! They promise so much, but it's more down to the lifestyle choices you make rather than the tea itself. But the reactions and ill feeling that can come with really aren't great, I'm with you on that one!
DeleteThanks for reading! Love your blog :)

Sounds wonderful! I just did a DIY post for a green tea face mask (totally coincidental by the way aha) so there is definitely a recurring theme of tea here.... :) x
