Bootea 14 Day Teatox Review ¦ Alice Phillips

So for those of you that have been followers for a while, you might remember that just over two weeks ago I started a Bootea 14 day Teatox (you can find the original post here). I was definitely really excited to try it, and January was obviously the perfect time to embark on one of these teatoxes, with the whole 'new year new me' hype that was going on.

[Both pictures taken from my previous post]

To start with, the tea wasn't actually that bad. The Daytime Detox was...alright I guess? But only alright. If I could describe it in one word it would be 'herby' - if that is even a term? But then again I don't really know what else I would have expected from a herbal tea. It wasn't necessarily a bad taste, but I can't say that I especially enjoyed it either.
I was quite worried about the Bedtime Cleanse, as the ingredients that it contained (all of which were nicely listed on the back) all tended to be flavours that I really dislike, be it from childhood association or food and drink that I don't like. HOWEVER (and I say that with capitals as it is a big 'however'), I have to say I really enjoyed it! It had a nice refreshing yet warming pepperminty taste to it, which just before bed was really great to soothe you and warm you up nicely. So that was definitely an unexpected bonus.

One of the main fears, or negative aspects of reviews that this teatox gets is the suggested laxative effect that users say normally comes around at its peak of day 4 of the teatox, and I hate to say it as it is definite TMI for you all, but I have to completely agree with this one. Not necessarily that I had a bad stomach in itself (I warned you of the TMI!), but I got really quite bad stomach cramps and the need to use the toilet quite a bit. And obviously this was pretty uncomfortable and annoying on my drive back from Cardiff to Bristol! The 8 hour guide that they give you for it to take effect is definitely vague, or just really not on point at all!

Don't get me wrong, I definitely think I was in the minority with this reaction to it. I mentioned before that one of my housemates was doing the teatox with me, and she didn't seem to react at all to the Bedtime Cleanses, so I can just assume that it affects different bodies in different ways - something to be wary of!

Now the results...
One of the main recommendations that Bootea suggests on their website is that you stick to a meal plan, which essentially cuts out meat and bulk dairy from your diet, along with sugars and other such things, and I have to say that I think that it may be this more than the tea that has an effect on your body. Yes, drinking the tea is nice and refreshing and probably does cleanse your body of a lot of toxins, but it also wouldn't be able to do this without you getting rid of some of the bad things that you put into your body in the first place.
I have to say, I didn't measure any inches, or weigh myself on the scales at all (well, I tried but apparently students can only afford dodgy scales that give you numerous different weights whilst being stood still on them), so I can't actually tell you if I lost any weight or anything, but I do think that my physical appearance changed slightly around my stomach. I've always been prone to a bit of bloating, and if anything at all happened from the teatox, it was definitely that I bloated less.

Generally, I feel that if you are looking at the Bootea to lose weight, you're making the wrong decision. By no means is it a weight loss miracle worker, and neither does it promise that. However, I do definitely thing that it is a great way to help energise you and make you feel good. I do think that it would be really good towards helping with weight loss IF (and that's a big if) you are using it alongside a healthy lifestyle of good food and exercise, because nothing ever comes from taking an easy route such as merely drinking herbal tea, because everyone would have done it by now!The meal plan does cut out a lot, but obviously this is how Bootea promise their optimum results, and I do think that it really is a good thing to stick to if you want to try this.

My advice? Think about what you're using it for before you jump in at the deep end, and also think about your body and it's natural reactions. If you're prone to a dodgy stomach, definitely don't opt for this one, as it could have disastrous effects! But if not and you feel like a health kick to get you motivated, give it a go because it might set you up in the right direction for the new year!

Bootea 14 Day Teatox ¦ Alice Phillips

After months and months of saying that we needed to get our act together and be more healthy, me and one of my best pals Lucy finally decided that we were going to jump on the whole 'new year new me' bandwagon at university this January and sort ourselves out.

Now I for one can say I'm taking the slightly easier route, as unlike her I haven't spontaneously signed myself up for a Tough Mudder (no way would I be fit enough!), but we have both decided to kick start our year by trying the Bootea 14 day Teatox - available here.

Now after reading up on this teatox through various different bloggers, I think it's safe to say there's a mixed bag of reviews, and some have seemed pretty negative about it. However, there are also some fabulous reviews that rave about the benefits of being less bloated and losing weight. In all honesty, i'm a bit nervous - just praying that I react in the latter way!

So, cracking on with the actual teatox now!

The actual packaging in itself is very cute and pretty, with cute little images and lovely happy colours which almost sets you up for a good day already? I think so anyway.
With the cleanse you get two packets of tea - one daytime detox, which you are supposed to drink in the morning and contains fourteen bags (one for everyday), and then another pack of the bedtime cleanse, with seven teabags (one for every other night).

Now one of the best parts of this is that all of the ingredients for both teas are listed on the back, so you know exactly what you're drinking, and also where the ingredients are from is on the back of each cleanse pack which is very cute too.

Now the part of this that is worrying me most is the bedtime cleanse, and its' supposed laxative effect 8 hours after ingesting it due to the senna leaves in the teabags. I've tried a teatox before, the Skinny Tea Co's 4 Day Skinny Tea Detox Sample, not really to lose weight but more to cleanse myself, and it was very tasty and light and helped me feel pretty good in myself. However, the liquorice and burdock roots in this bedtime cleanse tend to be quite heady flavours that I hate, so hold tight for my judgement on this pack and its' effects!

The teabags are very sweet to look at, and as you can see from above I tried my first cup this morning (ignore the stained mug - the joys of student living). At first I was unsure of the taste, but after the first few sips you get used to it and it's actually quite enjoyable.

One thing that I forgot to mention is the flexible eating plan that Bootea suggest for optimum results to this teatox, which is something that I will also be trying to stick to (no meat and very little dairy - my two favourite things!). I've already done my healthy shop for the week which turned out to be very very spenny, but I suppose I won't need all of the cupboard stuff again - never hurts to stock up!

I've taken some pretty hideous before pictures of myself to see if this teatox will actually give any physical results to the bloating of my stomach etc, but I feel that these are not really pictures for the internet as some things should stay private! But I'll definitely report back on the progress of these with my teatox review at the end of the fourteen days!

Hope you enjoyed the post,
