6 Things that Happen When You Start Blogging...

It goes without saying that you improve as you go along with blogging. Your writing improves, you develop your own style of posting, and your whole blog just blossoms with the attention you give it - both in appearance and by it's following. But, one of the things that you don't realise when you start blogging is that you actually start to change yourself.

 By change, I don't mean change in a drastic way at all. You probably aren't changing your personality or image (although a little bit of makeup does go a long way!), but you do find yourself going about things differently - particularly ways that you don't expect.

Now I wasn't quite sure how to word this, so we've got a bit of both: things that you learn as a blogger, and things that happen to you. I'm not sure which one works best for this post, but here is my list of things that I've realised have changed since I first started my blog;

1) You spend an awful lot more money on beauty products
So you started a blog (if it's beauty that is) because you have a passion for beauty and love everything that you have? Well, as soon as you start writing about it, you want more and more just so that you have lots of things to write about. It doesn't help that you read loads of other blogs and drool over their new purchases as well, so you have to be prepared to dip in to your pockets and save in other areas if you're going to keep up that blogging addiction!

2) You become a selfie Queen! (or King)
If you thought you took pictures of yourself before, then think again. Writing about products just isn't enough, and you need to be able to show them off in a way that will make other people interested...que the perfectly positioned selfies that took fifty takes to get right!

3) You realise how nosey people are
Have you ever wondered why vloggers tend to get so much more attention now than bloggers? It's because people LOVE to have a nose at others. By watching them talk to a camera, they see not just a picture of them, but also what they're really like, such as the way they talk and the way they look when its not in a picture of their best angle that's edited to the high heavens to look fabulous. It's the same with blogs though, most people don't look at it because they're interested in what you have to say (or so I've found on sites like facebook), they look at it because they haven't seen you in years and want to see what you're like, or how well you're doing. This is fine by me obviously, because I'm proud of my blog and I'd do the exact same if it were the other way around, plus I like that people take the time to look, but it does give you a sense of realisation about just how curious people can be!

4) The pressure does get to you
As much as bloggers like to say that they do their blog just for themselves, they don't. If it were just for me, I wouldn't worry about the way that my blog looked, or if I looked nice in the pictures. But as you gain followers, you start to realise that people are in fact looking at you. This makes you want to impress them and make sure your blog is as good as it can be - both pretty and appealing with regular posts to keep them interested. This can get quite stressful, particularly in a busy week when you're not sure if you can find the time to keep up. But if the passion is there, then the posts will be too! It's one of those things that keeps you on your toes.

5) You will spend a lot more time looking at other blogs than you spend on your own
Well why else are blogs there?! People put in time and effort (just like I do) into their blogs, and are proud of them. When this is reflected it makes for such good reading, and I love nothing more than to spend an evening or sunday afternoon scrolling through bloglovin', reading all of the blogs I follow and keeping up to date with everything. Plus if I'm interested in buying something, or fancy treating someone (blogging is so helpful for birthdays!), then reading product reviews and hearing others' experiences with things is like the best form of recommendation you can get. It definitely hurts my purse though!

6) You learn the tips and tricks of the trade
The weekend and particularly Sundays are your new best friend. Everyone has time to spare, and most spend it leisurely scrolling through the most recent posts on their blog feed. There's a certain time of day that's perfect for taking your blog pics. And, who would have known that renaming your pictures would help so drastically with your pageviews?! It's little things like this that you pick up along the way that help you so much along your journey - you learn something new everyday! (ugh, such a cliche...barf)

So there are my six things that you don't realise when you set out on your blogging journey - they are definitely little lessons that I've learnt along the way!

Have any of you found the same since you started?
Hope you've had a lovely weekend!
