As the pretty spring colours and fresh faces roll in with the sun, it's very common that my day-to-day makeup is fairly natural to keep up with the changing season. However, recently when it gets to 'that time' of the morning - i.e. the early few hours when you're in bed but have decided you're not tired enough to sleep - I've been looking at quite a few instagram videos of makeup tutorial accounts, and they alway tend to show quite bold looks.
The main type of insta-vid that's been catching my eyes however are the ones that give lipstick tutorials, or rather show beautiful women applying amazing liners and lipsticks along to music. So as per, this got me playing around a bit, and I decided to finally use (or try out at least) one of my MUA matte lip liners, and here's the look...
I have to say that I look most unimpressed, but you get the general gist of it. Lighting at night might not be on par with natural light, but it really is super flattering.
All of my base (foundation, concealer, powder, blush, highlight) along with my eyebrow products and mascara can be found at this post that I put up recently, however I made one small adjustment by using the Sleek Contour Duo for my contour/bronze instead of my usual Benefit Hoola, just as it has a bit of a darker tone which made it more striking.

Just before we talk about the lips, that's the ball of my septum glinting in the light, NOT a bogey. Rookie mistake though, definitely need to hide that one next time!
I lined my lip with Topshop Lip Liner in Deception, which is definitely joint favourite for my all time best lip liners. It's a deep pinky purpley colour, but it also great for most reds too and is fabulous for darkening up lip edges to create ombre effect lips! I can't recommend it enough!
To fill, I used the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer in Dare, which is a strikingly pigmented magenta/fuschia colour that dries matte. I attempted to lighten the middle slightly with a liquid highlighter before the colour dried, but it was a bit hit and miss - using bits of the lip colour over the highlighter to get the right effect.
Although this look is absolutely amazing for going out with, I would definitely suggest that you keep some vaseline or a really light and slightly wet lip balm (so probably not a stick) handy to rehydrate your lips, as the mattifying formula does really dry out and sometimes can wear off in a not-too-pretty fashion.
Isn't shadow lighting just so flattering?!
Have any of you got a go-to statement lip that you like to show off?
